If you are new to Willow Tree, then you may not know what hair testing is. Please head back to the blog and have a quick read to come up to scratch; Hair Testing: The Low Down.

What is Hair Testing?
If you know what hair testing is or you have already had a hair test, then let’s get down to business. We will explore the indicators that the hair test might show, suggesting you may need some gut support.
Key Indicators from Hair Testing
Low Potassium
Sodium and potassium are essential for maintaining the electrolyte balance of the cell. Sodium has a -1 charge, while potassium has a +1 charge. The ‘sodium-potassium pump’ regulates the cell's charge by swapping these molecules. Potassium has higher concentrations inside the cell and promotes the secretion of hydrogen ions, which also carry a +1 charge, into the gut.
Low Sodium
The primary source of sodium in our diet comes from salt, specifically sodium chloride. When we break this down, the chloride joins with hydrogen to create hydrogen chloride. If your hair test shows low sodium, it likely indicates low stomach acid. Low stomach acid means poor digestion, leading to food festering in the gut, causing gas, pain, and bloating.
Low Zinc
Zinc is crucial for producing stomach acid, along with vitamins B1 and B6. If zinc levels are low on your hair test, it is likely that you are not producing enough stomach acid.
Low Cobalt
Cobalt is a core component of the B12 molecule. It plays an important role in forming gut enzymes that help repair the gut lining.
Liver Markers
Excessively high or low sulfur levels can indicate issues with phase 2 detoxification in the liver. Cobalt also plays a role in liver detoxification, and low cobalt levels can suggest impaired liver function. High levels may indicate liver stress. Low lithium levels can suggest a compromised ability to detoxify. Lithium is involved in producing glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects the liver. Elevated heavy metals, especially lead, mercury, and arsenic, can indicate that the liver struggles to eliminate these toxins. A sluggish liver can significantly impact gut health, as the liver must function well to eliminate toxins through the gut. If the liver is overloaded, the gut will suffer.
