Menopause- How To Survive

Menopause, every woman will face this hurdle in life. Some will fly through without issue and

others will suffer with hot flushes for a decade or longer. Is there anything that you can do to

change this trajectory? Is the answer HRT? The short answer is possibly.

Women don't usually approach menopause is a supported or nourished state. You have

likely been through a few pregnancies, thrown yourself into your family, juggled many balls,

put on weight, lost weight, yo-yo dieted and frankly starved yourself. You have spent your

whole life sucking in your gut, worrying about how you look and wondering why the belly fat

will not disappear?? You avoid carbs, fats and fast regularly. But you are still not happy with

your weight or the way that you look.

Girls, if you are approaching your late 30's, it is time to prepare your body. It is time to nourish

your body and stop worrying about what people think. You are beautiful in the skin you are in

and news flash, you aren't getting younger! Do you want to feel good or look thin? Do you want

to have energy doing the things that you love or do you want to look good doing nothing

because you couldn't be bothered? But damn your jeans still fit. Well it's a shame you have no

energy to wear them anywhere.

How do you prepare for menopause? Well a balanced metabolism will mean balanced blood

sugar, energy reserve and balanced hormones. How do you balance your metabolism you ask?

You eat food. Regularly. Wow so simple. Yet most women don't do this! Eat regular meals,

every 2-3 hours. Eat meals that have both carbohydrate and protein in them. And pump up the

protein as you approach menopause. If you can do this, you will feel 100 times better.

Want to feel even better still? Then work on your stress load. Stress is a sure fire to a

unregulated nervous system, and your nervous system controls your hormones. Slow down,

look after yourself, sit down to eat. My goodness, take 15 minutes out of your day to eat,

without a screen in your face, outside in the sunlight. Take a deep breath every now and again.

Treat yourself to a warm bath. Stop multi-tasking all of the time. And learn to say no.

Take your fingers out of all the pies and let someone else handle it.

Ok, so you have tried column A and column B but you have hit menopause and you are not

coping. Some women use hormone replacement therapy (HRT), it is protective of the bones

and it can help you to feel better. There can be side effects so it is important to discuss this

option with your health provider to decide if it is a good fit for you. Some will do really well and

others, well, won't.

But for Pete's Sake eat a burger every now and again! Nourish your body. Get off the yo yo diet

round about and choose feeling great while aging gracefully.

In Stillness and Strength,

Jessica
